Today I went to preview the new Menswear and Womenswear collection during London Fashion Week Men’s over the weekend for Belstaff Spring Summer 2020 Travelogue in Hoxton Docks East London. I always rather look forward to each season because I admire the contemporary take on the brands history by Belstaff’s Creative Director Lehnhardt-Moore where he captures the imagination of the labels industrial heritage.

For this season the inspiration is drawn from the original archive where travel and exploring remain at the heart of the brands aesthetics hence the self title of the new collection Travelogue.

Fine details in the collection were kept contemporary with use of contrasts such as juxtaposing textures and colours between soft and hard where the contrast provide the essential look for a modern wardrobe.

Signatures pieces that inspired this seasons collection were the sleevless Castmaster cotton fishing jacket in orange from the archive in orange dry waxed cotton vs khaki version retains sleeves of the original and the XL500 Nautical Jacket from the nineteen seventies was re-imagined in Oxford Nylon.

Themes in the collection explore the influence of military is evident in the use of deep English rifle green and the newly introduced camo tech fabric.

Throughout the collection worn in looks are created with the use of slub yarns and pigment dyed fabrics for a vintage feel including pieces in dyed sahara cloth and cotton broadcloth create a military look.

Belstaff have catered to those who love to travel and explore with key looks such as a battered safari jacket is teamed with raw Ecru denim

With this in mind Belstaff have catered to those who love to travel and explore with key looks such as a battered safari jacket is teamed with raw Ecru denim, while new adventure print show line drawn illustrations applied to a rayon shirt for women and linen version for men.

I really liked the luxury fine knits and oiled suede polish up the look, contrast with sun faded pique shirts and sweatshirts for men and women.

Lastly, to finish off the look for the modern man and woman trooper boots in brown leather and canvas, along with a chukka boots with commando sole in suede and stonewashed cross body canvas bags with leather trims give edge to the collection this spring summer 2020 collection.

London Fashion Week Men’s this season celebrates a poignant moment in the British labels history to mark the 70th Anniversary of the iconic Trial Master Jacket.

Belstaff’s self titled collection Made In The UK presents a unisex clothing range deeply rooted in the 100th year history of innovation and legacy of protection for adventure.

The Autumn Winter 2018 collection draws inspiration from the English Subcultures through exploration of the Trial Master’s history from a curated selection of the original archive through innovations in fabrics, production and design aesthetic portraying a bygone era when they were launched.

This iconic four pocket Trial Master Jacket was originally designed for protection against harsh weather conditions during the Scottish Six Day’s Trials showcases colour, distinct decorative pins and badges that depict the pride of previous generations.

A sense of youth bears resemblance to referencing the 1950’s from Mod’s, Rocker’s, and Punk era that sought freedom of expression through music and fashion with inter generational popular culture clashes.

Belstaff since 1924 has been the supplier of protective clothing for generations of pioneers which now includes its discerning clientele that thrives on modern day spirit of adventure.

Following on from the presentation Belstaff hosted a private event with Liberty of London to celebrate the new Origins Collection presenting the latest in technology and new innovative fabrics such as ultra stretch lightweight nylon and tri layer nylon as functional weather proof and high performance materials.

The main classic signature pieces inspired by Belstaff’s archive revived for a fashion comeback

Fashion Photographer Alistair Guy was also involved in contributing to the exhibition by bringing both collaborators together to form the unique curated looks. The 10 restored jackets are now live on Vestiaire Collective and available to purchase which feature the iconic wax cotton trial master jackets from the Belstaff archive.

The weather seems pleasant today and I’ve just arrived at the Mayfair Flagship store Private White V.C. for designer Nick Ashley and his teams preview for the new Spring Summer 2017 collection. Always a pleasure to be greeted with the warmest welcome from the team always there to ensure to give you a run through on the latest style Edit.

Organic pieces take centre stage to enhance fit and its silhouettes bringing them to life where the rich colour palettes influenced by nature and the five elements of the universe Ayurveda evoke water, air, fire and earth.

By the looks of it, observing the key collection pieces they’re perfect for that weekend getaway. Models appear to have travel ticket itinerary boarding passes in their hands ready for their next holiday.

Spring Summer 2017 style inspiration from the Film ‘Brideshead Re-visited written by novelist Evelyn Waugh set in Britain’s Nineteen Twenties era.

Even some of the key looks from the Private White V.C collection reminded me of the period costumes Actor Jeremy Irons wears on screen were authentic classic pieces.

Like the Movie the collection takes you back to the golden era before the Second World War to discover the decade of dapper style adapted for the modern dandy. So, just a bit of fashion history I’m making reference to from the television series and film that redefined fashion for menswear to present day

It is a known fact that as automobiles became more affordable cars helped pioneer men’s fashion trends into a new era where casual leisure outfits were equally popular during the 1920’s popular culture.

Just being here up close with the collection I imagined myself getting dressed in 1920’s inspired menswear attire from sartorial tailoring, fine luxury shoes to hats and more styled with pants and suspenders. White introduces contemporary casual style staples adapted for leisure day wear separates ‘evoking a less formal and sportier dress sense for men was the height of style in the nineteen twenties when sportswear entered mainstream fashion.

Jetting somewhere nice this summer let’s hope so. I haven’t really given it some thought but I’m thinking somewhere between a staycation vacation, or better yet Ibiza, Montenegro, Mykonos or The Hampton’s for the 4th July would be the ideal summer situation don’t you think.

Traditionally most male movie stars would wear a full tuxedo on the red carpet but I much prefer another take on this look with a white shirt and skinny black necktie instead of a bowtie. From past film festivals stars such as George Clooney, Brad Pitt and Jude Law have gone for this look which I feel is much more contemporary, minimal and sleek with sophistication. For me the Chester Barrie presentation during London Collections Men was a like a preview leading up to the 70th Edition of the Cannes Film Festival which had the Red Carpet all rolled out for its guest which brought you closer to the big screen – it felt almost like ‘I’ the Movie fan had a front row seat at the Awards living it as a reality in real life. Male models dressed up in Tuxedo styles to emulate the Movie Stars themselves walked the red carpet amongst their adoring fans from behind the velvet ropes. It really did feel you were actually at Cannes which captured the spirit and moment of an exclusive Awards Ceremony.

Chester Barrie have also been involved with the film industry as the official menswear sponsor of the Olivier Awards. It was a real pleasure of seeing the looks up close to which style influencers cut a dashing figure on the red carpet during London Collections Men.

It was my first visit to the labels flagship store on Duke Street Mayfair and it was a hidden gem unless you knew about it. The clothes were very traditional and contemporary keeping in line with the Made in Britain concept.
