Road tripping is always a lot of fun. Even if you get a bit cranky being in the car for so long, with all those people crowded around you, you’re still going to have a good vacation.
But when you’ve been on quite a few road trips by now, you can start to itch for something a little more…extreme. You want there to be a few more ups and downs on your adventure, and you’re keen to plan the kind of road trip that makes you feel like a real intrepid explorer.
And that’s something we’ve got a few ideas on. If you’re looking to plan the ultimate road trip for the summer ahead, here’s how to focus on creating an adventure you’ll never forget.
Turn Your Phone Off
Or simply make sure it’s out of reach, when the urge hits to check your maps and find out where you are. Because a real adventure is the kind of thing you can get lost in, both mentally and physically.
And if you want your road trip to have a real adventurous edge to it, sometimes you’ve just got to go wherever you feel like! After all, you can check the maps once you’re on the other side.
For the time being, orientate yourself old-school style. Have a paper map to make use of, do some research into the area before you go, and even bring along a compass (or use an app) that’ll help you find the right direction to go in.
Will You Be Off Roading?
If that’s the plan, you need to get your car sorted out right now! Firstly, you need to make sure you’re driving a vehicle that’s actually capable of off-roading. And secondly, if you do already have a vehicle with a sturdy 4WD and chassis that repels mud no problem, you’ll want to get it checked over just to be sure.
A proper Land Rover service before going off on a more adventurous road trip will make sure there’s nothing wrong with your tires or suspension, and that’ll give you peace of mind when you’re raking it through the dirt.
Stop Wherever You Can
You’re not on a road trip to just move. You’re here to soak up the landscape as you go, and to embrace the scenery around you. And if you’re not stopping wherever you can to get out the car, stretch your legs, breathe in the air, and check out the sights as they exist, you’re missing out!
Spot a quiet, cute beachy area while you’re driving? Stop and dip your toes in the water. See some woodland with hiking trails coming up on your left? Pull over and see if you’ve got some worthy trail snacks in your bag. Whatever it is that catches your eye, actually let it catch your eye!
If you want your road trip route to be more adventurous, take the journey itself a bit more seriously. Stop off and soak up!
