THINGS TO TRY AND EXPERIENCE

Milan City Guide

DUOMO DI MILANO CATHEDRAL

The historic Landmark Duomo di Milano is one of Milan’s most treasured gems being the most grandest Cathedrals in the world that you will ever encounter with its Gothic architecture is quite impressive in all it’s all awe and beauty. I really do think it’s worth visiting and you can gain access to the inside of the building by buying a ticket pass for a couple of hours at a price of 3-4 Euro’s. Tickets can be purchased by the issuing tourist ticket office nearby which is not alot as you get to admire the art work of the cathedrals stained glass windows and visit the Crypt in the lower levels of the building. Separate passes for lift access to the roof is also available at a extra cost too for great views over the city.

PORTO GENOVA

Just imagine the streets aligned with an array of your favourite restaurants and bars to cater to all cuisines both local and international taste this would be where it’s at. It’s like a mini Amsterdam situated along the canal as you watch the day go by. But just remember restaurants close at 3pm and re-open at 7pm to bear this in mind compared to what you’re used to elsewhere in the world. But you must try The Apitervo bars and restaurants who offer a complimentary drink and a food buffet offered at various places along the canal and rather enjoyed taking a stroll along the canal and worth exploring day or night.

MILAN FASHION WEEK

Arriving in Milan for Men’s Fashion Week over the summer I just did not know what to expect as it was my first hand experience of visiting the city while doing a bit of sightseeing in between the shows. Already I just knew there was so much I wanted to see and experience during the next few days before returning home to London. Just out of curiosity I was so keen to compare how the Italian’s do fashion week over here in Milan compared to us Brit’s in London. It really took me by surprise how good it actually turned out – no words. Camera Moda the equivalent of the British Fashion Council organise the bi-annual Fashion Week Schedule which require accreditation for both Press and Photographer’s if you happen to get approval is a great way to take in shows and atmosphere during the duration of Milan Fashion Week. But, if you’re not one of the lucky few who can secure an invitation you can still hang around outside the shows and do some street style spotting of fashion influencers on the scene and participate as a blog photographer.

DISCOVER A TASTE OF CULTURE THROUGH CUISINE

OSTERIA MAMMA ROSA

The first thing which comes to mind when you think about living the Italian way of life is culture through cuisine and only the finest authentic food can be found at this Top Milanese Restaurant Osteria Mamma Rosa just off the trendy Corso Buenos Airies. My favourite signature dish here has to be the Sea Bass prepared the Liguria way served with potatoes’  as an alternative to the Grilled Seabass which is also delightfully sumptuous. On arrival prosecco is served before dinner as a gesture of good will and the atmosphere is very friendly and welcoming at this family run restaurant in the heart of Milan.

GELATO ICECREAM

In Italy there are so much choice when it comes to desert especially the selection of Gelato Icecream you can find in various icecream palours dotted around the city such as this place I found ‘Vechi’. The mango sorbet and strawberry with a bit of chocolate was the best way to cool off during a hot summers day in the city while sight seeing in Milan.

Milan City Break
APEROL SPRITZ

The signature drink when you come to Italy had to be my favorite always the Aperol Spritz that really reminds of summer and it’s so refreshing with its blend of Aperol liqueur, Prosecco and Soda Water combination is my go to drink during Milan Fashion Week.

DESIGNER FASHION LABELS & SHOPPING

Milan City Break

GALLERIA EMANUELE VITTORIO II

The Galleria Emanuele Vittorio II is Milan’s premiere shopping destination that houses all under one roof the world’s most exclusive designer label boutiques from Prada, GUCCI to Chanel and more. Inside this elegant four storey arcade you’ll find high end restaurants if you want to experience authentic Italian cuisine and luxury cafes to unwind after an afternoon of shopping. It’s also a short stroll just outside of the Duomo di Milano piazza which connects  with Teatro alla Scala if you want to admire and catch a glimpse of Milanese renaissance in all its splendor.

Milan City Break

CORSO BUENOS AIRES

The Corso Buenos Aires the equivalent of London’s Oxford Street you’ll find everything from high street brands, independent small boutiques to designer labels and shop till your heart’s content if you wish. Compared to the shopping streets of London it’s less overcrowded and a bit more laid back so you can shop with ease.

VIA MONTENAPOLEONE MILAN’S DESIGNER SHOPPING STREET

When you come to Milan I highly recommend checking out the Montenapoleone District for its luxury fashion boutiques serving the well heeled and discerning clientele. If you’re after the latest styles from the international catwalks you will find it here from big name luxury fashion houses such as Prada, Gucci, Dolce & Gabanna, Missoni, Versace and many more. This neighborhood is rich in history showcasing fine craftsmanship based on tradition to luxury fashion where money talks in this town.  Once a upon a time the street was home to aristocrats and the choice of wealthy families who resided here to open ateliers, boutiques and jewelers.

HOW TO GET THERE

Milan has two Airports Malpensa and Linate that serve both Europe as well as connecting International destinations worldwide. The airport with the closest proximity to the City is Linate which is 20 mins a Taxi to the city center and Malpensa 45 mins drive away.

From the U.K Milan is easily accessed by a short haul flight journey duration of 1 hour and 30 minutes from London Gatwick Airport with EasyJet and cost approximately £ 89 return which is fantastic value. You can always rely on EasyJet for competitive price and great customer service with a warm welcome from it’s friendly staff who are always very helpful.

I really recommend booking the extra add-ons when booking your flight through EasyJet such as extra leg room and speedy boarding as it makes all the difference so you can travel with ease and not need to worry about being in held up so you spend less time at the Airport.

Airport Transfer’s from Linate into the City Centre I would suggest taking a Taxi outside the Airport as it’s the easier option than taking public transport and cost approx 20 – 30 Euro’s or there’s the option of using an UBER which is available in Milan too if you prefer using this service is present in many countries worldwide.

DEFIANT STATEMENTS OF ANARCHY & SOCIAL FREEDOM AT HOUSE OF HOLLAND A/W 19 LONDON FASHION WEEK

THE GLOBAL CITIZEN RUNWAY SHOW

The House of Holland returns to London Fashion Week this season to showcase their new collection ‘Global Citizen’ for Autumn Winter 2019 inspired by a utilitarian uniform for a generation who feel oppressed by how their world is governed. They want their voices to be heard and are prevalent in today’s society where fashion and politics are intertwined to make strong statements as the woman’s contemporary F**k you uniform staple.

London Fashion Week

This collection represents new millennials as the ‘Global Citizen’ to be outspoken and rebel for those who cross boundaries and show that creative inspiration cannot be confined. It is a reminder that women are strong, empowered and invigorated to make change which inspired Designer Henry Holland’s muses this season.

An exclusive collaboration between the House of Holland showcased a T-shirt project with the Netflix Show Sex Education and necklace accessories as vape cage carriers were created in partnership with VYPE. I also noticed the signature Grenson hiking boots were a carry over staple from the previous season but given a western woven paracord spin gave the collection a new edge too.

A juxtaposition between hard and soft details created outfits that were practical but still feminine were understated to form transition pieces for everyday work wear without being too overdressed.

WHAT IT’S REALLY LIKE BEING A BLOGGER IN PARIS | A DAY IN THE LIFE AT COUTURE FASHION WEEK

By Posted on 0 Comments Location: 1min read3122 views

Paris is the original birth place of the Haute Couture Houses from Dior, Vionet to Chanel and there always seems to be an expectation of Paris to be very stylish from a Fashion point of view.

It was such an honour to be invited personally to attend a catwalk show in Paris especially as a blogger as I was wondering if I was the only one from London and would there be anyone else I knew here to keep me company. The Paris Fashion Scene is very new to me but really impressed by the high standards and presentation of such Fashion Designer’s Rani Zakhem as he debuted his Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2018/19 collection to the International press, style influencers and celebrities.

PARIS HAUTE COUTURE FASHION WEEK

It was such an honour to be invited personally to attend a catwalk show in Paris especially as a blogger as I was wondering if I was the only one from London and would there be anyone else I knew here to keep me company. The Paris Fashion Scene is very new to me but really impressed by the high standards and presentation of such Fashion Designer’s Rani Zakhem as he debuted his Haute Couture Autumn Winter 2018/19 collection to the International press, style influencers and celebrities. As soon as I arrived I just couldn’t wait to explore the city on foot and be immersed in a city full of culture and intrigue.

In Paris the fashion show production efforts made is just on another level with all the fine details, polished floors to the beautiful grade II listed buildings set the standard very high during fashion week here.

paris fashion week bloggers

Atelier Rani Zakhem is a Couturier Fashion Designer based in Lebanon but has showcased his work in the fashion capitals such as London, Rome and most notably Paris for his collections each season.

Even during the shows the Press Team from the French PR Agency have usher’s that walk you over to your assigned seat which is great hospitality. But in London this rarely even happens as you have to navigate your seat on your own and a tight squeeze for space so it’s always good to give yourself plenty of time before the shows. For me it was very special to see it up close as sometimes it can take up to two years to produce a new collection for some Couture Houses is a known fact.

Zakhem returns this season with a vibrant and sparkling tribute to the combating and combative woman, Amazone of all jungles and Glamazonian, seductive when like a warrior goddess, she appears in her crystal armour.

A look on the Runway during the Rani Zakhem show

Signature Pieces in the Collection

My favourite looks that came down the Runway included a piece in the collection such as the black spencer jacket with red black and gold crystals in clusters on an incendiary sheath or on the sleeves looked very classic.

Themes for this collection explore the poetry of an imaginary jungle where Rani Zakhem envisions his muse as the glamazone and delicate guardian of a paradise.

paris fashion week bloggers
Photography Nadia Rashid

In celebration of this nature there was a feeling of dark romance that had a spellbinding effect in a crinoline creation, fluttering black tulle with scattering of crystals evoking a spider in its precious cobweb.

What I admired about the collection most is that it represents women who appear, strong, but sensual where authority appertains to her and lives in her evidently with elegance. Subtle references from Yves Saint Laurent, Marc Bohan and Azzedine Alaia punctuate the couture vocabulary of Rani Zakhem, between a Saharienne detail, a draped moulage, the powerful minimalism of a white dress enhanced by a slight ornament to create a dream worthy wedding dress. Apparently couture fashion week is where all the wedding dress trends are born to embody each season by a new muse of the moment.

If you ever have the chance to attend Fashion Week in Paris I highly recommend it as it’s a place of culture and the centre of fashion where all the latest ground breaking trends happen.

Have you ever attended Fashion Week in Paris – would love to hear your own experiences. Remember to follow along with The Joey Journal’ on Instagram the_joey_journal

SUPERDRY LAUNCHES SUMMER SESSIONS LIVE MUSIC CONCEPT WITH EMERGING ARTIST FROM THE MUSIC INDUSTRY

#SUPERDRYSOUNDS

Superdry revealed their latest lifestyle concept last night by launching a successful music showcase with Emerging Music Artist known as Superdry Summer Sessions featuring Aaron Unknown, Timmy Xu to a Live DJ set by Sam Blacky.

The Superdry Brand was founded by Julian Dunkerton in Gloucestershire and has since been going strong since 1985 bringing its blend of vintage Americana and Japanese graphic inspired clothing to the mass market.

It was the perfect platform to promote music artist by collaborating with a renowned lifestyle brand such as Superdry which has a world wide international mass appeal to connect with its audiences. This is my first hand experience of seeing the brand incorporating music and fashion as a Lifestyle Brand which I fully support and encourage because I am a huge fan of live music and new talent.

Superdry

When I arrived for the event at their flagship store I was curious to see the set up of the party as I’ve heard Superdry have hosted a Mens Fashion Week party for LCM: London Collections Men previously inside. As I make my way up to second floor I’m led by the friendly staff to a discreet entrance staircase leading to the stores top floor. I could not believe it, but they converted the whole of the shop floor into a pop-up nightclub complete with bars, sound stage and DJ-Booth was very least expected, but cool at the same time.

Superdry

Upon arrival there was a prosecco wine reception and warm greeting by the PR reps and information about all the live acts on the landyards before heading to the dance floor equip with sound stage for tonights performances. The turnout at the venue was really huge and the fashionista crowd settled in well with a few drinks from the complimentary bar.

What I love most about fashion parties is bumping into familiar faces makes it more fun and great to catch up over some great music which reminds me its Coachella shortly. And I’m afraid its #Nochella as I can’t go but there are going to be some great music festivals this summer closer to home.

MARY BENSON X RELENTLESS ENERGY DRINK LIVE GRAFFITI STREET ARTIST COLLABORATION

It’s that time of year again when we can all look forward to the beginning of summer starting with music festival season as renowned Lifestyle Brand Relentless Energy Drinks will most likely be lending their name to major sporting events, festivals and now street style fashion.

Relentless Energy Drink collaborates with British Fashion Designer Mary Benson for a pop-up store launch in the west end and I got to see the exclusive preview of her latest work.

British Fashion Designers

British Fashion Designers

Mary Benson launched her debut collection with Fashion East in 2014 where she was awarded the prestigious TOPSHOP Sponsorship for AW2015 a great accolade in the designers career. It was my firsthand experience of coming across the label and I love discovering new designer brands at Fashion Week.

This season Mary returns with an exclusive line of unisex vinyl and screen printed street wear which were on show during the launch night. Graffiti adorned the walls of the event alongside the pieces from the collection which were quirky and fun evoked street style sub culture with an onsite Street Artist creating live art work.

Last July marked the designers second major milestone to move into the space of online retail with the labels very own stand alone e-commerce store.

In the past Mary Benson has collaborated with ASOS releasing an exclusive shoe and accessories collection last year with an event in associate with Hackney Walk and Stitch Academy.
